The Society's membership includes musicians, teachers, business and professional persons, students, and persons simply interested in America's original music. The common bond is the love of jazz music and the desire to build a larger jazz audience in the community.

The GJS is a non-profit organization and a member of the American Federation of Jazz Societies.
